The Inline Planet is pleased to announce another addition to the National Roller Cup — the Inlinewarehouse-Chicagoland Inline Marathon. The July 26th event brings to seven the number of events in the inaugural NROC season. "We're delighted to have Chicagoland aboard," said Robert Burnson, publisher of the Inline Planet. "This 2-year-old event is really impressive and appears likely to emerge as one of the top inline marathons in North America." The event moves this year to Hoffman Estates, a mere 12 miles from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. The organizers have geared the event for serious racers, fitness skaters and families. Aside from a classic 26.2-mile marathon, the event includes a half marathon, a 2-mile Kids Sprint (12 and under), and a 1-mile Young Guns Fun Race (8 and under). For out-of-town skaters, the location of the host hotel, the Hilton Garden Inn, couldn't be more convenient — it's within walking distance of the starting line. NROC schedule so far:
The event is organized by All Community Events and the Team Rainbo inline skate club. Team Rainbo's Cale Carvell said the organizers were proud to be a part of NROC. "There have been race series before," he said. "But none have had the infrastructure to maintain and give credibility to the series. That's what NROC — with the Inline Planet behind it — brings to the table." The race will provide skaters with the opportunity to compete against many of North America's top skaters. Aside from that, it provides skaters and their families the opportunity to rediscover the many attractions of the Windy City, including (to name just a few) the Art Institute, the Field Museum and the wonderful new Millennium Park. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to the Special Olympics. (Go to Inlinewarehouse-Chicagoland Inline Marathon web site.) What's NROC With $5000 so far in cash prizes, NROC is a race series for both pro elite and fitness skaters.
Its pro point system, similar to the World Inline Cup's, will rank pro and elite skaters based on their placement in participating races and crown NROC national champions. The NROC Prime system will calculate performance scores for all marathon participants. The inaugural NROC season starts in one month with the Metrodome Inline Marathon, March 16, in Minneapolis.
